50 years of Play

Our story began in 1975 when Chris Cowie, after training in engineering at British Aircraft Corporation, realised that his potential in this field was limited. Though selling wasn't a natural talent, Chris started selling as an Agent in the Gift Trade. Hence, the name Key Craft Agencies, which Chris founded with his wife. 

The journey wasn't without setbacks. After 9 months their first agency went into receivership. The couple travelled across the UK in their Ford Cortina Estate, to secure stock in lieu of unpaid commissions demonstrating resilience which became the cornerstone of Key Craft’s growth.

In 1977, Chris identified impulse items as a game-changer and purchased a small range of novelties to sell from the back of his car to supplement his commission. This progressed to a Van, sales loaded daily from two garages with an office in a garden shed. These early beginnings were filled with hard work and a passion for bringing joy through toys.

In 1993, Keycraft moved to peterhead, Scotland, along with other family members, were the business found a happy home and developed a mission to provide affordable fun that educates and delights. Impulse toys truly became our speciality.

Today, Chris’ sons, Doug and Greg, lead a thriving global business, with dedicated departments, a talented team, and a commitment to sustainability and growth. We specialize in building engaging customer experiences that positively impact our customers bottom- line results. We align with your goals and support you through growth whilst always reviewing and improving to maximise profits for your business.

As we look back on the last 50 years it’s incredible to see just how far the toy industry has come, and we can’t wait to see what the next 50 years brings!
